Hello everyone,
Host Gator specializes in shared, reseller and dedicated hosting.
There are three types of shared hosting plans: hatching, baby, swamp. Reseller hosting plans: aluminum, copper, silver ,gold and diamond, and the dedicated server plans: basic, standard, elite and pro. The shared hosting plans do not differ so much of each other. The only difference is that you with the hatching plan you can host only 1 domain while on the other shared plans unlimited domains. Also you get free dedicated IP and SSL certificate with the swamp plan.
As for the reseller plans as you go for the more expensive plan you get more space and bandwidth. The dedicated plans differ in CPU, disk space and bandwidth.
The best selling plans are baby, aluminum, basic of shared, reseller, dedicated hosting plans respectively.
All hosting plans include PHP, mysql, perl, Ruby on Rails, cPanel, fantastico, 4500 html, css and flash templates, free domain, site, database transfer from another host, 45 days money back guarantee, 24/7 support and more. On shared plans you can even tell them to install custom addon/module on the server and they will try to install it for free. If you are reseller you do not need to tell your customers that you are reselling hostgator hosting plans, and you can custom splice and dice disk space, bandwidth, features for your reseller plans. Dedicated servers come preinstalled with lots of good software and features and of course you can choose whether you want CentOs or Red Hat linux as a operating system. I prefer CentOs for my desktop, though Red Hat might be better for servers.
When they say 24/7 support they really mean that. Their live chat is always online and they quickly respond at any time with their tickets system, e-mail or phone. But I will write another review for their brilliant support.
And update of the coupons for host gator:
“snowman” coupon valid until 2 February will get you 20% off and you can save the most money with this coupon – up to $96,24 on the shared hosting plans.
“freemonth” coupon will get you $9.94 off – $0.01 for the baby hosting plan.
All coupons have been tested and work with every hosting plan.
HostGator joomla – drupal – mambo – wordpress – Content Management Systems
WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Mambo and other Content Management Systems can be installed and work great on Hostgator. Either with uploading the files directly via FTP or with Fantastico de luxe (the 1-click install). The installation of the Content management systems worked seamlessly and easy.
First before installing the CMSs, you need to create new mysql database with the database account manager in cPanel control panel, and add user to that database. Sometimes I forget to add user to the database and the install shows errors, but quickly and easy fix this by adding the user to mysql db.
This site is powered by Drupal. I prefer drupal rather than joomla for creating my sites, WordPress for blogs,
because drupal and wordpress have built in seo (with the clean-urls and url path options, joomla you need to install module for this), and are easy to manage. But also Joomla and Mambo are very good CMSs, have good
number of modules contributed by the community and the developers, and are also easy to install/manage. These CMS are free and open-source meaning you can change the code to suit your needs and add your own features. They are template driven, and there are many templates available for free. You can download them from Joomla.org, drupal.org, mambofoundtation.org and WordPress.org respectively.
Some people advise not to use Fantastic o deluxe for installing web software for your sites, because the scripts are not always updated to the latest version. Always update your scripts to the latest version! Updates add important security and bug fixes, and new features depending on the realize. Drupal 6 has batch updater so you can easily update the database. On the other hand wordpress is good for blogging. I have installed and tested these systems on HostGator and they work very nice.
That’s enough for today, don’t forget to visit us again and go signup with Hostgator!
Thanks!
